Start the engine
Get in the habit of visually inspecting the engine and engine room before starting the engine. This will help you find out all kinds of abnormal situations that have happened and will happen in time. After the engine is started, check whether the indication value of the instrument is normal.
Before starting
Check whether the lubricating oil level is between the MIN (lowest) and MAX (highest) marks, see "Maintenance of Lubrication System".
• Turn on the fuel switch
·Confirm that there is no leakage of coolant, fuel or lubricating oil
.Check the clogging indicator of the air filter, see "General Engine Maintenance".
Check the coolant level and whether the outside of the radiator is blocked, see "Maintenance of the cooling system".
Warning! Do not open the coolant filler cap when the engine is hot, steam or high-temperature coolant will spray out. Turn on the main power switch
Important! Do not use the main power switch to disconnect the power when the engine is running, so as not to damage the charging engine. ·Set the engine speed at idle speed and disengage the disconnect clutch/gearbox (if fitted).
How to start EDC4
Before starting, the engine speed control lever must be placed in the idle position.
The EDC4 system guarantees that the engine always receives the exact amount of fuel-even during a cold start.
Start the engine.
If the engine is equipped with a preheater, the preheating time can be adjusted according to the temperature of the engine.
Starting the engine in a severe cold environment
In order to help the engine start and enable the engine to start successfully under certain conditions, the following preparations must be made.
Use winter fuel (a well-known brand) that is approved for the local temperature, which can reduce the risk of wax deposits in the fuel system. In the case of extremely low ambient temperature, it is recommended to use a fuel heater.
In order to ensure adequate lubrication, it is recommended to use synthetic lubricating oil with a viscosity suitable for the local temperature, see "Maintenance of the lubrication system": Synthetic lubricating oil can adapt to a larger temperature range than mineral-based lubricating oil.
Preheat the coolant with an external engine electric heater. In extreme cases, it may be necessary to use diesel-burning engine heaters. Please consult your Volvo Penta dealer.
Important! Make sure that the ethylene glycol mixture has been filled in the cooling system, see "Maintenance of the cooling system".
The battery must be in good condition. Low temperature will reduce the capacity of the battery, you can increase the total capacity of the battery as needed.
Do not use priming spray
Warning! Never use starter spray or similar items to help the engine start. This may cause an explosion in the intake manifold. Risk of personal injury.
